PAST...
The Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park SLSC was founded in 1923 by
a small group of Burleigh locals who recognised the need for
a patrol service at the increasingly popular Burleigh Beach.
The club merged with the Mowbray Park Swimming Club from
Brisbane and officially joined the surf life saving movement
with enough male and female members to provide lifesavers
on the beach all year around.
As a souvenir of our 75 year anniversary we published "I'm
telling you Burleigh Heads will do" - a 75 year history
of the Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park Surf Life Saving Club
1923 to 1998. The book is a fabulous insight into the foundations
of our club and how it came to be the great organisation
it is today.

The club now consists of 800 members, 329 of these members
being Active Juniors and Seniors. The active members are the
qualified award holders who voluntarily carry out an average
of 5300 patrol hours per season - (August to April).
The surf club is dedicated to continuous growth and improvement
in the following sections: Junior Surf Sports (nippers)Surf
Sports and competitionBeach PatrolsSurf BoatsIRB (Inflatable
Rescue Boats)
Since its foundation, Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park SLSC
has been there to assist the thousands of beach-goers and
prevent any fatalities. The club's aims and objectives are
extensive but it is our primary purpose to teach members
of the community the importance of Surf Safety and provide
qualified voluntary lifesavers for Burleigh Beach.
Members have the opportunity to train for a number of lifesaving
awards including the Bronze Medallion, the Resuscitation
Certificate, and the Advanced Resuscitation Certificate.
The fitness and surf awareness of our members allows many
of them to successfully compete at the various surf carnivals
throughout the season. Over the years the club has produced
State and Australian champions in a wide range of surf events
and the photos of these champions adorn the walls of our
clubhouse.
